Meet the Broughton Street Team

Craig

Craig’s friendship with Colin started right at the beginning when Colin was training and he was a fledgling senior stylist (trying to hold together the senior bit).  He easily blushes so let’s leave the back story there!

His career started in Glasgow and his early involvement in avant garde hair shows ignited the diverse passion for the industry. That passion has seen him educating for industry brands Sebastian, GHD, Wella and Nioxin, giving him a diverse knowledge and experience to share.

Colour is Craig’s amore and he loves to create a colour that blends seamlessly (his friend Zoe Irwin once titled him the master blender)and his 15 years as a Wella Master Colour Expert has helped him achieve this.

He’s no longer a fledging after a career spanning three and a half decades, but he’s not ready for the zimmer yet.  Never frightened of a challenge or to jump into unchartered water, his life experiences and passion have kept him young (or so he thinks).

Craig is co salon director of Medusa Broughton and looks forward to so many exciting paths to walk (or sprint) together.

Kym

Kym’s been with medusa since 2002, and in 2012 became a salon business partner. She has a deep understanding of all things hair!

Kym’s experience is reinforced by technical knowledge. While gaining her Wella Master Colour degree, Kym achieved an exceptional 98%, and she has been teaching others for more than ten years.

Aside from the day-to-day work of making clients look and feel fantastic, she has also participated  in industry training events, fashion shows, and editorial photo shoots, and has won many industry awards (including the title of Medusa Fantastic Hairdresser for three years in a row).

"The most enjoyable area of my working life has to be my clients - without them I'm no one! I love suggesting tweaks and changes for their hair, priding myself on trying not to do the same thing twice.  Whether it's changing  colour from cool to warm, drying hair from straight to waves, I always like to experiment when the client is game for shaking things up a little… and subtle changes can often change how confident a person feels about themselves."

Kym has many regular clients, and it can sometimes be hard to get an appointment with her. For this reason, she invests a lot of time on teaching and making sure the next wave of stylists are as much of a perfectionist as herself.  As joint owner of the Broughton salon, she is responsible for making sure everything in the salon is tickety boo (did I really just say that?) and running like clockwork.

"I genuinely love to 'catch up' with my clients and want to know what's happening in their lives. As the conversation twists and turns down many a path,  I love how often I stumble upon something that I never knew and that helps me in my own life. You can learn an awful lot when you cut hair if you listen."

Away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, Kym is an animal lover at heart, and is at risk of converting her home into an animal sanctuary.

Sylvia

Having worked in hairdressing for over 20 years, Sylvia knows how best to look after your hair, inside and out. Sylvia looks on hair the way designers look at couture fashion – with many different elements being combined to achieve the right style: the colour, the cut, the texture, the lines, and it all has to come together harmoniously for each individual client.

“I really want my clients to continue looking great, long after they’ve stepped out the salon, I spend time to make sure they know about aftercare….there are little things to do that can make a massive difference to how your hair looks every day.”

“I think the basis of every great hairstyle is a great technical cut – without a great cut, the rest is just window dressing.”

Ellie

I first started hairdressing when I was 14 as a Saturday girl and from then I knew that is what I wanted to do! I finished school at 16 when lockdown had just stopped and started at Medusa as an apprentice in April 2021.

I then worked with the team to complete my level 2 hairdressing in June 2023 and after the long time of challenging work started my own column in the August. I then went on and completed my level 3 in August 2024.

My favourite thing to work with is blondes, any aspect of balayage or highlights is what excites me. I am always open to my clients wanting a change as well giving them my best advice on what we could change completely or tweak.

Seeing my clients smile is the best feeling ever! I very much enjoy a good chat and catch up with my clients as well and everyone in Broughton knows that I cannot be quiet for more then 2 minutes😂
