kate

It’s difficult to know Kate and not to think about dancing a waltz, as she come from Budapest, the home of the River Danube which inspired the infamous Blue Danube Waltz (yes, you know the tune, don’t you). Thankfully, Kate does not waltz about the salon, but takes a far more technical path to creating the perfect haircut for you.

“To me, I think it’s important to continually refine, improve, and reflect on your work in order to become the best…this really is a job where you have to keep on learning all the time”

Prior to joining medusa, kate trained under Hajas Laszlo (Hungarys answer to Vidal Sassoon) and also worked for several years in one of Dubai’s most prestigious salons, the Version Francais Salon group, dealing with a fantastically multi-cultural client base.

Kate speaks English perfectly (to the point where she can correct some of her colleagues’ English from time to time) but she also understands how hard it can be to communicate your hair in a different language. Thankfully, Kate speaks the language of hair fluently so if you’re visiting Edinburgh from overseas and your spoken English isn’t so great or even if you’re more local than Greyfriars Bobby, then be sure to keep Kate in mind.

AMA (ask me anything)

Q: What’s the next gig you’re going to ?

A: Still Game

“A scone and tea at half past three makes the day a little brighter, so you can keep your cakes and fancy tarts and stick them…” STOP!!!

Q: Name of the movie that changed your life ?

A: English Patient and Hair (The Musical)

We’d love to go to a cinema that was showing those as a double-bill just to see who else shared your same taste in films – talk about polar opposites...

Q: Favourite Scottish food ?

A: Hard to believe, but i love haggis - i don't have it very often, but Black Bull on the Grassmarket serves it, and it's fantastic.

Q: What would your perfect day-off sound like ?

ZZZZzzzzz + NNYOMM NYOMM + BLAH BLAH BLAH + CLINK CLINK

(long lie-in, followed by a fantastic lunch, and then catching up with friends and family…with drinks!)
